VIRGINIA WATER, England -- Thomas Bjorn birdied seven of his last eight holes Saturday to grab a five-shot lead after the third round of the BMW PGA Championship. Matt Magill Mariners Jersey . The 43-year old Dane fought back from a double bogey on the first hole by making six straight birdies from the 11th and then adding another one at the last for a 5-under 67. His 15-under total of 201 put him five shots clear of Luke Donald at the European Tours flagship event at Wentworth. Donald, a two-time former BMW PGA winner, birdied his closing two holes for a 68. Irelands Shane Lowry shared the overnight lead with Bjorn but shot a 73 to sit another shot back in third. Rory McIlroy was in a tie for fourth after a 69, seven shots behind Bjorn. Bjorn is competing in the event for the 17th time, but publicly disagreed with changes to the famed Surrey course in 2010 and skipped the event the following year. He returned in in 2012 to finish 37th and then further down the board in 40th place last year. "Im starting to warm to this place," Bjorn said. "But after the double at the first it was just a question of trying to hang in and trying to get the best out of it and just see if you can roll in a few putts here and there. That happened, and probably a bit in excess on the back nine." A win would earn Bjorn one of the biggest prize cheques of his career US$1.059 million, and would also cement his place in Septembers European Ryder Cup team and a first appearance in 12 years since being a member of the victorious 2002 team. The start of play was delayed by three hours because of a rain-soaked course that saw a lot of players struggle early. McIlroy also had a double bogey on the first hole, before recovering with five birdies the rest of the way. And the double major winner hasnt given up hope of catching Bjorn. "Ive had big leads and let them slip, and come from behind and won, so theres a lot of ways to win," McIlroy said. "There is still 18 holes of golf to go, but Im going to need something very special." Mike Cameron Mariners Jersey . The International Ice Hockey Federation says Pavlovs avoided a two-year sanction because he acted "without significant negligence in failing to verify the safety of the supplements he was taking. Mike Blowers Mariners Jersey . Beanballs were the theme Friday night as the Red Sox and Rays had another AL East rumble, with Boston earning a 3-2 victory on A. https://www.cheapmariners.com/875k-jay-buhner-jersey-mariners.html .com) - Hassan Whiteside scored 20 points with nine rebounds in the Miami Heats 83-75 win over the Boston Celtics on Sunday.KITCHENER, Ont. -- Brad Gushue of St. Johns, N.L., needs just one more win to get closer to another Olympic experience. The 2006 Olympic gold medallist came out hitting against Saskatoons Steve Laycock for a 5-3 win on Sunday in the Page Playoff C-C game at the Road to the Roar Olympic pre-trials. With the win, Gushue earned another faceoff with Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., in the last chance to qualify for the Roar of the Rings Olympic curling trials in December. That event that will decide Canadas teams for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. "It felt great out there," said Gushue. "I thought we played well. We really minimized our mistakes, which is something really burned us early on this week. We didnt make any big ones, and the few mistakes that we did, we came back with great shots after." The No. 2-ranked Gushue rattled off two wins early in the pre-trial tournament, then lost the A-Event final to John Morris of Vernon/Kelowna, B.C. Battling back through the B-Event, Gushue lost the semifinal to Jacobs and had to win two more games before defeating Greg Balsdon of Elgin, Ont., in the C-Event finals and earn a spot in tthe Page C-C game. Omar Vizquel Mariners Jersey. Gushue and his team of Brett Gallant, Adam Casey, Geoff Walker and coach Peter Gallant shot 90 per cent as a team, and executed the big shots when needed. In the eighth, with a Laycock counter tucked behind a corner guard, Gushue made the runback double with his first, and then threw a precise pick forcing Laycock to hit for one and head into the final two ends trailing by two. Trailing by one in the final end, Laycock split the house to set up a possible score of two, forcing Gushue to draw for one and put the win away. "Were playing our best curling the past two days, and hopefully it continues tonight," Gushue said. "We just need one game, one great game, and well be in Winnipeg. But unfortunately, were playing a real good team, and theyre playing well too. So were going to give it everything we have and hopefully come out on top." While disappointed, Laycock was also philosophical after the loss. "We came in ranked fifth, and we finished fourth," said Laycock. "Disappointing to lose out there, but they played a great game though. Brad make five or six doubles that were huge." ' ' '
